Lifelearn Client Education Portal — requires a subscription bp0-ut contains over 1600 client education handouts with a diverse range of topics. Handouts can be customized to suit your hospital and are clear and easy for clients to understand.

VSPN — the Veterinary Support Personnel Network is an offshoot of VIN aimed at techs, receptionists, assistants, and other non-vet clinic staff. Lots of CE and a large network of professionals with which to discuss cases, keep abreast of rapidly changing medicine, and brainstorm ideas.

RVTTC — the Registered Veterinary Technicians and Technologists of Canada homepage, with RACE-approved CE, job offers, newest developments, links to provincial organizations, and other helpful resources. Dedicated to unifying the profession across Canada, membership is received automatically when you become registered with your provincial tech association e.g. BCVTA.

FOR PET OWNERS AND ANIMAL LOVERS

VeterinaryPartner — developed in association with VIN (a network of veterinarians dedicated to supporting and educating each other in treatment, diagnosis, and all aspects of veterinary medicine), VeterinaryPartner has a huge wealth of information on pet care and health, backed and approved by veterinarians. An excellent source of accurate information!

AnimalHealthCare.ca — the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association’s portal for pet owners, full of resources on choosing and owning a pet, common health concerns, good husbandry, and many other useful topics. Use the sidebar menu to navigate.

Dr. Andy Roark — a veterinarian in the USA, Dr. Andy Roark has made a name for himself as both a veterinary comedian and an excellent educator. His website contains videos and articles on a variety of topics for pet owners, and is definitely worth perusing.

ANIMAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS CLOSE TO OUR HEART

BC SPCA — the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a provincial organization dedicated to protecting the welfare of all animals within BC, domestic and wild. Dogs, cats, birds, pocket pets, and a variety of farm animals are available for adoption through their shelters while their wildlife rescue organization, Wild ARC on Vancouver Island, rehabitilitates and releases sick and injured wildlife. The BCSPCA also runs a program called ‘SPCA Certified’, dedicated to humane farming, investigates animal cruelty complaints, and runs several humane education programs.

CAAT — the Canadian Animal Assistance Team is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to providing veterinary care and spay/neuter services to low-income and isolated communities. Operating mainly in BC and Ontario, CAAT leads several teams a year to communities without access to veterinary care, as well as partnering with international organizations in many different countries.

MAWS — the Maun Animal Welfare Society operates out of Maun, Botswana, and provides sterilization/vaccination services, veterinary care, and animal adoption in the immediate area as well as in various outreach projects up and down the Panhandle. Their work not only helps domestic animals but also wildlife conservation by preventing the spread of contagious disease, and contributes to human welfare by cutting down on human-animal conflicts and zoonotic disease transmission such as rabies.

WFFT — Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand is a sanctuary and rehabilitation/release project for Thailand’s wildlife. As well, they are vocal campaigners against all forms of animal abuse and exploitation, participate in humane education projects, provide veterinary care for both wildlife and domestic animals, and work internationally to improve the welfare of captive wildlife. They are linked to the Laos Wildlife Rescue Center.
